I majored in art throughout my student life. However, I took education as my career pathway, becoming a Primary Teacher, then later an EAL teacher. I often used art as an effective way of teaching. Along the way, I married and had children, but I always maintained my art skills and continued to sell my works as well. Happily, I can now focus my full attention on being creative. I work in a variety of mediums, including alcohol ink, acrylic paint, mixed media, pen and ink, graphite pencil and coloured pencils. I don't digitally enhance my work, so you will see brushwork, pencil lines ect. which will attest to the authenticity of each peice. My tools include various types of brushes, palette knives, dabbing rags, a hair dryer and very often my fingers. The surfaces I choose are: yupo paper or yupo boards, wood boards, canvas frames or canvas boards and various drawing papers. I am mostly self taught and have settled into several styles - intuitive, impressionism, figurative, abstract, painterly and stylised. I often don't know the direction my work will take until it starts to take form. I take my inspiration from travel, photography, dreams, memories and imagination. All of my Earth/Australia peices are done with deep respect to the original owners if this land. I have been a member of Gallery247 exhibitions for two years. I have exhibited at Geelong Art Space and Bendigo Art Show. I hope you enjoy taking a look at my work as much as I enjoy creating. Please check out my IG account - megshawart6566. |
